Esa construcci\u00f3n se ubicaba en la esquina de las actuales calles de Corregidora y Abasolo. Sin embargo, debido al crecimiento que experiment\u00f3 la ciudad a finales del s. XVI e inicios del XVII, as\u00ed como por causa de un incendio que en 1584 afect\u00f3 severamente el anterior edificio catedralicio, se hizo necesario pensar en otro templo, m\u00e1s grande, s\u00f3lido e importante. Por ello es que a inicios del s.
