width: 92px; cursor: pointer; height: 140px\" title=\"catedraldedurango09.jpg\" class=\"img_thumb\" \/><\/p>\n<p>CATEDRAL DE DURANGO ERIGIDA EN 1620 POR EL PAPA INOCENCIO Xl\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>La catedral de Durango es sin lugar a dudas la representaci\u00f3n arquitect\u00f3nica m\u00e1s importante del estado, adem\u00e1s de ser uno de los edificios m\u00e1s bellos del norte del pa\u00eds. Este monumento ocupa el lugar de la antigua parroquia de la Asunci\u00f3n, consumida por un incendio hacia 1634, luego de ser nombrada catedral. En 1695 se inicia su construcci\u00f3n, realizada por Mateo N\u00fa\u00f1ez. La portada principal es de estilo barroco cl\u00e1sico y salom\u00f3nico, con columnas corintias y unos nichos que resguardan las im\u00e1genes de San Pedro a la izquierda y San Pablo a la derecha. Una gallarda \u00e1guila mexicana remata el conjunto. La siller\u00eda del coro, obra del primer tercio del siglo XVIII, es una maravilla que actualmente est\u00e1 siendo restaurada. Es tambi\u00e9n muy bella la imagen de la Pur\u00edsima Concepci\u00f3n de madera estofada y policromada que se encuentra en el altar mayor.
